Technologies, such as science labs, ICT and multimedia, are considered important supporting tools for teacher training. The lack of access to computers is recognized as one of the challenges to promote the use of ICT and multimedia materials in teaching in Cambodia. Understanding this issue, VVOB Cambodia has provided a prompt respond by installing a resource room in all Teacher Trainings Colleges since last year, October 2010.

Part of its program implementation, an initial monitoring visits of those resource rooms were recently made from 6th-8th May 201to Kampong Cham and Kratie Teacher Training Colleges. To ensure about the sense of ownership and sustainability of the project, VVOB’s counterparts from Teacher Training Department and ICT in Education Office of Information & ASEAN Affair Department (MoEYS) were also involved in this work.

There are some hindering issues include the behavior and perception toward the use of computers and ICT materials by teacher trainers in which some of them are resistant to change; Internet connectivity that were cut off for some period of times; and the absence of printer was also confirmed as an issue for teacher trainers to fully use the resource room.

However, overall, comparing to our baseline information, we have noticed about the progressive changes for the utilization of ICT and multimedia materials for teaching. The use of DVD box with DVD player was confirmed as the most active; follow by computers and LCD projector. The condition of the room and its accessibility is also one of the supporting conditions.

Moreover, with the extensive supports and commitment from the college’s managements given us the feeling of optimism for the positive impact these resource room will provide to enhance the quality of teaching in Cambodia for years to come.
